Social Media and Social Media Influencers

Trending Post

Social media has been part of our lives since we can remember. We’ve been using social media for businesses, updating our lives on it, posting milestones, and all that sort. But what is social media?

Through online communities and networks, these interactive technologies facilitate the production, exchange, and gathering of ideas, content, and interests. These online platforms facilitate or enhance human networks because they are user-centric and allow for communal activity. Social media platforms are highly interactive, allowing users to share, co-create, discuss, participate, and moderate user-generated or self-curated content through web-based apps on desktops or mobile devices. Several well-known platforms are QZone, Weibo, VK, Tumblr, Baidu Tieba, Instagram, WeChat, ShareChat, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

In terms of quality, reach, frequency, usability, relevancy, and permanence, social media platforms are different from traditional media. With numerous sources and numerous receivers, they function within a dialogic transmission system. A culture can be represented or identified through digital media, so for many academics, analyzing the rhetoric in this context has emerged as an essential new method.

A rise in social movements using social media for organizing and communication during political unrest has also been observed. Social media can enhance an individual’s sense of connectedness with real or online communities, and it can be a useful communication tool for corporations, entrepreneurs, non-profit organizations, advocacy groups, political parties, and governments.

History of Social Media

With Samuel Morse’s invention of the telegraph in 1844 as a starting point, the development of communications technology since the late 19th century can be linked to the history of social media. Telegrams, on the other hand, do not meet the criteria for social media because they do not occur online and do not foster a greater community. The internet’s inception in the 1970s marks the beginning of social media’s true history.

How social media platforms were developed

The World Wide Web, founded in 1991 by Tim Berners-Lee, was the first example of networked communication. Weblogs, list servers, and email services were used to create online communities and offline support as a result of this. The first online services that allowed real people to connect using their real names were GeoCities, Classmates.com, and SixDegrees.com. These platforms marked the start of social media in the mid-1990s. Social media sites like Facebook, Myspace, YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook became more and more popular in the early 2000s. According to research from 2015, the adoption of smartphones is probably the reason why people spend 22% of their online time on social networks. 4.76 billion people used social media as of January 2023, which represents 59.4% of the world’s population.

The Growth of the Internet

The inception of social media can be traced back to the 1960s and 1970s when organizations began attempting to connect computers, which is when the internet first came into existence. However, the 1980s and 1990s saw a rise in the use of personal computers, which helped social media to take off. The 1990s saw the development of bulletin boards and blogging, which gave people a platform for online expression and increased the importance of the Internet.

Social media of today has an impact everywhere, and content has gone viral. Videos of dances, sweet animal videos, wholesome videos, and many more kinds of content would be included.
